Although I initially started out with fan art, I eventually created some OCs so that I could play out certain scenarios with more creative freedom. Over the years, I've had a lot of characters who never appeared beyond 1 or 2 deviations, and I was running out of ideas for character design. So I decided to streamline the process and focus on developing the personalities of a few select OCs. Here's a brief rundown of OCs (in alphabetical order) that you will likely see more of in the future:
DYLAN
A teenager who has a lot of brawn but little brain. So far, he's always appeared with his unnamed female friend. A little known fact is that he is a little insecure about his size, and always dreams about growing even bigger. Dylan has appeared in 3 deviations so far.
ETHAN
He's a little mysterious, as he's only been featured in the 'Small World' series. Nothing else is known about him beyond the fact that he appears to be uncomfortable with his hulking physique. Ethan's appeared in 4 deviations so far, not counting their variations.
ROLAND AND RILEY
A big and little bro combo. (Riley's the younger brother.) They often share uncomfortable situations as their sizes are juxtaposed against each other. Although they have a backstory of sorts, I may change it in the future to give them more personality. Roland and Riley have always appeared together, and are featured in 4 deviations so far.
TRAVIS
He used to be a runt and was the constant target of bullies until he literally hulked out. All my pieces so far show him getting revenge on his tormentors. Travis has appeared in 2 deviations so far.
ZACH
A large, destructive giant with no backstory, Zach doesn't get drawn much because he always has to be accompanied by a background of some sort to show his size. He is my personal favourite though. Zach has appeared in 3 deviations so far.
So what will happen to the other characters whom I have drawn before? For one, don't expect to see the characters from my growth comics anytime soon, as they were designed specially for a one-shot use. The other OCs have been sidelined because they either looked too similar, or didn't have a distinct enough personality to be featured regularly.
The process I usually go through when I create an artwork is like this: I imagine a scenario, and then I will think of a character that could fit the scenario. For example, if I think of a situation where the main character does something stupid, then I will probably fit Dylan in as it matches his personality. This process has a few flaws, but is working well so far. I still lack a few OCs for different personalities (e.g. a gentle giant), so new regular OCs may be created to fit the situation.
